Nikon D500 Advantages:
- ISO – 1,638,400 vs 51,200. Higher maximum ISO sensitivity.
- AF System – The D500 has less points, but it’s much more accurate and faster in low light and action situations, especially because of its 99 cross-type points. The X-T2 is good too, but the D500 being a DSLR beats it (along with all other mirrorless cameras).
- Continuous mode – 10 vs 8fps. The X-T2 can shoot faster but only with an electronic shutter enabled.
- LCD – 3.2″ vs 3.0″.
- LCD Resolution – Higher resolution.
- Top LCD Display – When shooting in semi-auto/manual modes, you can quickly preview all of your settings.
- Viewfinder Magnification – Higher magnification.
- Headphone Jack – Useful for previewing your audio quality straight out the camera.
- Dual Card Slots – More room for extra photos, or simply for backup.
- UHS-II – Faster writing speeds than UHS-I, but you need a memory card that can handle such speeds.
- JPEG Buffer Size – 200 vs 55. Useful for long bursts.
- RAW Buffer Size – 200 vs 48.
- Built-in NFC
- Bluetooth Support
- Battery Life – 1240 shots vs 340 shots.
The D500 costs more, and is worth it if action/sports is important to you. The main advantages you’ll appreciate are the higher ISO levels, extremely fast AF system, better LCD, 2 memory card slots with UHS-II support (or an XQD slot and the incredibly large 200 shots buffer. Being a DSLR, the battery life is also superior.

Fujifilm X-T2 Advantages:
- Megapixels – 3.4 more megapixels. It’s a small difference and you won’t notice it unless printing really big.
- AF Points – The X-T2 has way more AF points, but as mentioned above, the D500’s technology is better
- Focus Peaking – Very useful for seeing if your subject is in focus (both photo and video).
- Faster Max Shutter Speed – 1/32000 vs 1/8000.
- Weight – The Fujifilm X-T2 weighs 349g less.
- Size – The Fujifilm X-T2 is noticeably smaller.
The X-T2 is an excellent choice if you’re looking for something small, yet powerful that can be used for all different types of photography. It’s a great mirrorless camera, but compared to the D500 it’s not as exciting if you want a device for mainly action.
