Canon 77D Advantages:
- Higher Max ISO – 1 stop higher maximum ISO. Not an advantage for most situations because it’ll result in images with way too much noise, but it could prove to be useful in really extreme low light places
- 45 AF System – Both cameras feature Dual Pixel AF technology and are great for video focusing, but the 45 all cross-type AF system of the 77D will be more accurate for photographing fast subjects in difficult conditions
- LCD Screen – The screen fully articulates, whereas the M6 “only” tilts (good for video mostly)
- Bigger buffer – Unlimited JPEG buffer compared to 26 shots, and 27 RAW files versus 17. The Canon 77D will be much more useful for capturing that special moment for wildlife and sports, but even 26 isn’t that bad.
- Battery Life – Twice as long battery life
- More Lenses – There are over 70 different Canon lenses you can mount on the 77D, not to mention all other lenses from Sigma, Tamron and more. You can use an adapter for the M5 and get similar performance, but there are a lot less native EF-M mount lenses available as of 2017
Both cameras feature the same sensor, but the Canon 77D is a more advanced DSLR and therefore has a better auto focusing system, with all 45 points cross-type. This, along with the bigger buffer and a longer battery life, make the 77D a better choice for sports, low light focusing or capturing any sort of action. The M6 will do good for many situations, but the 77D will do even better.
oth It’s also cheaper and lasts twice as long!

Canon M6 Advantages:
- 7 vs 6fps – Both cameras are fast enough for sports and wildlife, but the extra 1fps helps if you often shoot wildlife and want more shots to increase your chances of getting a razor sharp photograph
- Focus Peaking – Every mirrorless camera offers focus peaking. If you’re focusing with a manual lens or have a bad eye sight, the camera highlights what part of your image is in focus. Great for video too!
- Size & Weight – The camera is a lot smaller and lighter
The Canon EOS M6 is good if you’re trying to stay as light as possible. Whether it’s for concerts, parties or traveling, the small size is a big plus.
Don’t forget that the viewfinder is optional and not cheap, so all of your images/videos will be captured through the LCD screen.
