Best Memory Cards for Nikon D7100

The Nikon D7100 is an advanced DX camera with two SD memory card slots. It supports UHS-I memory cards but has a small buffer, so you don’t really have to get the most expensive memory cards out there (over $80+).

Our favorite memory card is the SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB. It’s super fast (95MB/s) and affordable, plus SanDisk is the most reliable memory card company out there.

We recommend buying either UHS-I cards or UHS-II if you really need faster transferring speeds to your computer. Also make sure to look at the rating of each UHS card, as U1 is the slowest, and U3 is the fastest.

Our top pick: Hands down the best card on the market is the SanDisk Extreme PRO 64GB (95MB/s). It’s cheap, super fast and excellent for bursts, RAW shooting and videos. I don’t recommend you to get the 128GB version because it’s safer to store your images on a few smaller, separate cards. The good thing about it is if you ever upgrade, it’s still the best option for even more advanced cameras.

The Lexar Professional 633x 32GB U3 also comes with Image Rescue 5 software (review here). Both memory card brands are fast and reliable, but the included software will save you from headaches if you accidentally delete your shots (it happens to all of us). It’s just as fast as the SanDisk above.

If 32GB is too much for your needs, the Lexar Professional 1000x 16GB is still large enough for more than 1,000 shots. It’s also UHS-II type, meaning it’s faster to transfer the images on your computer than with the cards above, but your Nikon D7100 won’t write files any quicker as it tops out at what the UHS-I maximum is (around 45MB/s).

Don’t buy memory cards from unknown brands or something that looks too good to be true. More often than not, those cards will fail right when you’ll need them the most.

A memory card is where all of your work is stored until you transfer that on the computer.

Make sure to get a card from any of the following brands: SanDisk, Lexar, Transcend and Kingston. There are a few good out there, but the 5 we mentioned are more than enough.
