Canon 80D Advantages:

  • AF System – The M6 may have 4 more AF points, but all 45 on the 80D are cross-type and phase detect, hence why they’re better suited for all sorts of situations
  • LCD Screen – It’s fully articulated, whereas the Canon M6’s screen is fixed
  • Top LCD Display – You can quickly preview all of your settings, as well as battery life, focusing mode etc. Helps a lot when shooting in manual modes
  • Headphone Jack – Helps if you want to monitor the audio quality
  • Faster Max Shutter Speed – 1/8000 vs 1/4000
  • Buffer – 53 vs 26 for JPEG and 24 vs 17 for RAW
  • Flash Sync Speed – 1/250 vs 1/200
  • Startup Time – Turns on twice as fast
  • Environmentally Sealed – The 80D’s body is much more protected for shooting in the rain/snow/bad conditions
  • Battery Life – Almost 700 shots longer battery life

The Canon 80D his a DSLR and therefore offers a much longer battery life. It’s good to have an improved AF system, an articulating LCD screen, faster max shutter speed and environmental sealing, especially if you plan on shooting in bad weather situations.

Canon M6 Advantages:

  • Body Stabilization – Built-in 5-axis video stabilization. Unfortunately it doesn’t work for photographs
  • Focus Peaking – The Canon M6 can highlight what’s in focus! Excellent when focusing manually, whether it’s video or photography
  • Built-in Bluetooth
  • Size & Weight – Almost 400g lighter and much smaller
  • Less Expensive – Body only, the Canon M6 costs around $300 less

The Canon M6 is mostly similar to the M5, except that it has no viewfinder. This is the biggest reason for its lower price (you can buy a viewfinder but it’s relatively expensive). Together with the 80D, these 3 cameras share the same 24MP sensor, video functions, Dual Pixel AF and they all deliver the same quality.
