Canon 5D Mark IV Advantages:
- Sensor – 10 more megapixels
- High ISO – The native ISO is slightly bigger, and the 5D IV can also go as low as 50
- AF System – This is where the 5D IV sweeps the 6D, as it has 61 AF points (41 are cross-type), whereas the 6D has 11 AF points with 1 cross-type. It’s faster and more accurate
- 7 vs 4.5fps – 2.5fps more every second is enough to make a difference in sports and wildlife
- LCD Screen – 3.2″ vs 3.0″ and a higher resolution
- Touchscreen – Excellent for selecting the AF point on the LCD screen, navigating through the menus and photographs
- Viewfinder – 100% vs 97% coverage
- 4K Video – 4096×2160 at 30/25/24p
- Headphone Jack – The 5D IV has a headphone jack for audio monitoring
- Dual Pixel AF – The 5D IV sports much better video focusing (as well as in live view) thanks to the DPAF
- Dual Memory Slot – The Canon 5D IV has 1 x CF and 1 x SD memory card slots
- Time-Lapse
- Connections – The Canon 5D IV has built-in NFC support
- USB 3.0 vs 2.0 – Faster file transferring
The Canon 5D IV strongest points are the 30 vs 20MP, much better AF system with 61 AF points, 7fps and 4K Video. It’s better in nearly all departments, but the price increase is big. If you don’t absolutely need all of the advantages, do consider getting the 6D with more lenses.

Canon 6D Advantages:
- Battery Life – 190 shots shots longer battery life
- Size & Weight – Slightly smaller and 140g lighter body
- Less Expensive – Body only, the 6D costs around $2000 less
The Canon EOS 6D was released in 2012 so it doesn’t really offer specifications that would match that of the 5D IV, but image quality is absolutely fantastic too. If you’re looking for an affordable FF DSLR, this is your best option and you can spend the rest on lenses.
