Canon T7i Advantages:

  • LCD Screen – It’s fully articulated, whereas the A6500 only tilts and does not swivel. The screen is also slightly sharper.
  • JPEG Buffer – No limit to how many JPEG’s you can take before the buffer fills, but the Sony still manages an impressive 231
  • Flash Sync Speed – A little bit faster at 1/200 vs 1/160
  • Startup Time – Not tested yet, but DSLRs turn on ~0.5s faster than even the fastest mirrorless cameras. The T7i should be no exception
  • Battery Life – 250 shots more with a single charge. These are CIPA tests where the flash is used for 50% of the photographs, so expect both to go much higher in normal situations.
  • Bluetooth – You can now send your shots using Bluetooth
  • Lens Mount – As of 2017, there are a lot more lenses you can use on the T7i. Sony has some impressive lenses too, but this is where Canon’s 30+ year old EF mount comes in play
  • Less Expensive – Body only, the T7i goes for twice as less

What to say, we’re comparing an advanced mirrorless camera to a DSLR that costs half the price.

The obvious T7i advantages are its bigger battery life, Canon’s EF mount and the LCD screen that is fully articulated. It’s very impressive for a Rebel when you compare it to other DSLRs and how much they go for, but it doesn’t look like anything special compared to the latest Sony cameras.

We think the price should be enough big of a factor to help most people with decision. If you’re trying to spend as little as possible and want more lenses to choose from, the T7i wins. Other than that… read below.

Sony A6500 Advantages:

  • Body Image Stabilization – The A6500 has a built-in 5-axis image stabilization that works for video and photography.
  • 425 AF Points – All phase detection AF.
  • 11 vs 6fps – A very big difference for sports and wildlife
  • Focus Peaking – The camera can highlight what’s in focus; great for people with bad eye sight or when manually focusing
  • Viewfinder – While EVF vs Optical is a personal preference in terms of which one looks nicer, the EVF has a 100% viewfinder coverage and shows you exactly how your shot is going to look before taking a picture
  • 4K Video – Not only does the A6500 sweep the T7i in Full HD video (120fps), it also offers 4K at 30fps!
  • RAW Buffer Size – Almost 5x bigger buffer for those of you who like to shoot action in RAW
  • Weight & Size – Slightly lighter, noticeably smaller

The Sony A6000 was an amazing camera. This A6500 manages to pump out even more and this is why it’s one of the best selling mirrorless models right now. 24 megapixel APS-C sensor, 11 frames per second with 429 AF (phase-detection) points, built-in stabilization and 4K video in a small and light body.

If you have the money and find all of the advantages about exciting and can see yourself using them (both photo and video), you will absolutely love the new A6500.
