Nikon D3400 Advantages:

  • 1200 vs 700 shots battery life
  • SnapBridge (Bluetooth always on)
  • Slightly lighter body
  • The D3400’s kit lens (18-55mm) is now AF-P (instead of AF-S), meaning its auto focus is quiet and smooth for video recording.

Turns out that the only big difference is the huge increase of shots you can take with a single charge. The “problem” with the D3400 is that the D3300 is already more or less perfect for an entry-level DSLR, making it hard for Nikon to release a new interesting camera. But since they both cost the same now, the D3400 is obviously a better choice.

Nikon D3300 Advantages:

  • Built-in port for an external microphone

If you’re serious about video recording I don’t think you’d really want the D3300 for that, but it’s more or less the only advantage there is. It’s still an amazing camera for the price and one of the best to ever hit the market (cheaper and better than Canon’s entry-level models).
