Nikon D3300 vs Canon T5i

nikon-d3300-vs-canon-eos-rebel-t5iNikon D3300 vs Canon T5i – The Canon T5i is Canon’s highest entry level model, while the Nikon D3300 is positioned lower (both price and naming). That doesn’t seem to be the case when comparing their specifications though!

nikon-d3300

Advantages of the Nikon D3300:

  • 6 more megapixels
  • 2 more AF points
  • Full HD at 60 and 50fps, versus “only” maximum 30 on the T5i
  • 150g lighter, slightly smaller (can also be a disadvantage to some)
  • 260 shots longer battery life
  • The lack of low-pass optical filter should make images slightly sharper (noticeable when cropping)
  • Around $50 cheaper

Yes, the D3300 is actually cheaper and offers better features. The biggest advantages are definitely the better AF system, a higher resolution and the lack of an AA filter, and the longer battery life.

Here are our most recommended D3300 lenses.

Advantages of the Canon T5i/700D:

  • Articulating screen can be useful in some cases, although not nearly as useful as with point and shoot cameras where AF in live view is actually usable for moving subjects
  • Slightly higher resolution of the LCD screen

You can buy the Canon Rebel T5i at Amazon.

There’s not much to think about here in my opinion… Not only does the newer D3300 beat the T5i at almost everything, it’s also slightly cheaper ($50 to $100).

  • Looking at the Nikon d3300 & d5200. Canon Rebel also recommended to me. New to dslr. Would love to use for capturing quality pics of my children. My husband wants to use for high resolution pics & also video for his website (for fine art). The d5200 was recommended for video purposes. I prefer the 3300 because it’s slightly smaller/lighter. Two friends who are professional photographers have pushed for the canon. Your thoughts? I’m pretty camera illiterate. Thank you!!

  • Hello so ive been thinking about getting my first dslr. ive pretty much narrowed down my options to the Nikon D3300 or the Canon T5 with a added 50mm 1.8 lens. Which one is better considering the added lens? Or should I go for a Canon T5i? I will probably not do many portraits and more landcapes or sunsets or closeups. Thank you.

    • The D3300 is much better than the T5. Better sensor, AF, burst, pretty much everything. The Nikon 50mm f/1.8G is around $100 more expensive than Canon’s 50mm f/1.8 version which does play a role if you’re trying to stay under a specific budget.

The T5i compared ot the D3300 adds touchscreen, an articulating LCD screen, slightly better AF system, but the D3300 still has a longer battery life, is much lighter and slightly smaller as well as cheaper. If you want the improved LCD then get the T5i, otherwise the D3300 wins hands down.

If you got more questions feel free to ask. Good luck!
