Canon T6 Advantages:

  • Connections – The T6 has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC, whereas the T5i has none of that
  • Battery Life – 60 shots longer
  • Weight – The T6 is a little bit lighter
  • Less Expensive – The T6 is around $150 cheaper

For a smaller price, you get the same 18MP sensor and the T6 also features Wi-Fi for quickly sharing your shots. It’s a little bit lighter and last slightly longer, but these aren’t major differences.

How to tell if you should get the T6 rather than the T5i? If you really don’t want to spend an extra $150 for the features below.

Canon T5i Advantages:

  • Higher Max ISO – One stop higher maximum ISO. Both are pretty much unusable over 6,400, but it helps knowing you can go this high
  • Auto Focus – They both have 9 points, but the T5i has all 9 of them cross-type (compared to just 1) and they’re more accurate and faster in low light
  • 5 vs 3fps – More is better for shooting sports and wildlife
  • LCD Display – The LCD screen is fully articulated and has a higher resolution
  • Touchscreen – The T5i supports touchscreen so you can navigate through the menus quicker
  • Microphone Jack – If audio quality is important to you, the Canon T5i allows you to plug in an external microphone
  • UHS-I – Both cameras have 1 x SD memory card slot but the T5i will be able to use the speeds of faster UHS-I SD cards

The T5i is an excellent camera for the price too. The burst mode is faster with 5 vs 3fps and the articulating screen along with touchscreen makes it a much better candidate for recording videos of yourself or anything else.
