Canon 77D Advantages:
- Body Stabilization – When recording videos, the built-in 5-axis stabilization helps you get less shaky footage.
- Higher Max ISO – The max expanded ISO is 1 stop higher. Noise will be too high at 51,200, but it could still prove to be useful in some extreme low light situations
- 45 AF System – The 77D has a few more points, but the biggest advantage is that all 45 of them are cross-type, compared to only 9 on the D5600. They’re more accurate and precise in places with bad light
- Top LCD Screen – The 77D has a top LCD screen for previewing your settings and it saves a lot of time when shooting in manual modes.
- 6 vs 5fps – Not a big difference, but if you’re often photographing action then every extra frame helps. We consider 5 to be the minimum for serious wildlife/sports, so both cameras will do good here.
- Bigger buffer – Unlimited JPEG buffer compared to 100 shots, but even 100 is more than what 99% photographers need. RAW buffer on the other hand is much more useful with 27 vs 12 shots.
- Connectivity – You can send files using Bluetooth
What are the advantages worth paying more? Definitely the improved AF system, a top LCD screen and a bigger buffer for RAW files. If video is important, you’ll also like the stabilization. The 77D is a more expensive version of the T7i, so if you don’t need the top LCD screen then check out the comparison here.

Nikon D5600 Advantages:
- LCD Screen – Slightly bigger, same resolution
- Battery Life – 220 shots longer. All Nikon entry-level models are good in this department
- Weight & Size – It’s not a big difference, but the D5600 is 70g lighter and a little bit smaller too
- Less Expensive – With the kit lens, the D5600 goes for around $250 less
The D5600 is very similar to its predecessor and they both share the same sensor.
In terms of image quality, the 77D and D5600 look the same. The majority of DSLRs today use a 24MP sensor so noise performance, colors and dynamic range are nearly identical in the entry-level department.
It can still be used for extreme sports and action, and it’s an amazing tool for any type of photography. It’s simply that by spending $250 less, you get a a little bit less and it depends on how much you’re willing to spend on photography.
