Canon T7i Advantages:
- Body Stabilization – When recording videos, the built-in 5-axis stabilization helps you get less shaky footage.
- Higher Max ISO – The native ISO is 2 stops higher, and the expanded goes 1 stop higher too. Noise performance is better too.
- Cross-Type – The T7i has 45 cross-type points compared to 15 on the D7100. These are much more accurate at focusing in dark situations
- Touchscreen – You can select the focus point directly on your LCD, which is great for video and photography. You can also navigate through the menus or zoom in/out of your pictures.
- Bigger buffer – The T7i sweeps the D7100 here. Unlimited JPEG versus only 12, and 27 RAW versus 5.
- Connectivity – The camera has built-in Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth for sending your files
- Weight & Size – Almost 250g lighter and a little bit smaller
The T7i has a 4 year advantage over the D7100, despite being positioned lower (entry-level vs mid-range). It offers better noise performance and way more cross-type AF points that are better for low light focusing.
For video, the T7i also wins big because of its Dual Pixel AF (live view focusing) which is actually usable for moving subjects, whereas the D7100 is not. The LCD screen is fully articulated and supports touchscreen too.
For sports and wildlife, the bigger buffer is extremely helpful if you want to shoot at 6fps for a long time

Nikon D7100 Advantages:
- AF System – 6 more AF points. However, it has much less cross-type points!
- LCD Screen – The screen is slightly bigger and has a higher resolution
- Top LCD Display – When shooting in semi-manual/manual modes, having a top LCD display saves you a lot of time when changing the settings (shutter speed, AF type, …)
- 100% Coverage – Looking through the viewfinder, everything you see is what you’ll get on the shot. The T7i has a 95% coverage which is common for cheaper cameras.
- Headphone Jack – You can plugin headphones directly in the camera
- Dual SD Slot – The D7100 offers two SD memory card slots
- Faster Max Shutter Speed – 1/8000 vs 1/4000
- Faster Flash Sync Speed – 1/250 vs 1/200
- Environmentally Sealed – More protected for shooting in rain/snow/etc.
- Battery Life – 350 shots longer with a single charge
- Less Expensive – Costs around $50 less
The D7100’s most advantages are around its body; it’s bigger, more stable, better protected and offers a top LCD screen. The longer battery life and dual SD slots also make it more useful for long trips where taking thousands of pictures is nothing unusual.
