The names look different, but the Canon T7i and Canon 77D are nearly identical on the inside. There are only a few differences, the major one being the 77D is quite a lot more expensive, so let’s see why.
Our comparison table below covers the important specifications of each camera. Below that, we specifically talk about the new improvements and which model is better suited for your needs.

Canon T7i Advantages:
- Less Expensive – Body only, the T7i costs $150 less
On the inside, these two cameras share the same sensor and specifications, and are powered by the same Digic 7 processor. Because of this, everything will look identical; the quality, colors, dynamic range, buffer size etc.

Canon EOS 77D Advantages:
- Top LCD Screen – The 77D has a body that resembles that of more advanced DSLRs, and therefore has a top LCD screen. The benefit? When shooting in semi-manual/manual modes, you can quickly preview all of your settings on the top screen without looking at the rear LCD. It may not sound like a lot, but it’s faster and once you try it, you won’t want to go back.
The main reason for the price increase is because the 77D has a more advanced exterior; top LCD screen is common on mid-range DSLRs and the mode dial is positioned differently. It also has a Quick Control dial to navigate quicker through your files/menu.
Should you pay more for it? We’d say only if you plan on shooting in the manual mode really soon. You can do that with the T7i of course, and nearly all of us started DSLR photography with an entry-level camera that didn’t have one and it wasn’t an obstacle, but it’s just easier to see the changes on the 77D.
