Sony A6500 Advantages:

  • 5-Axis Image Stabilization in the body, works with every lens you mount on it
  • Much bigger buffer size, great for sports and action
  • Touch-screen LCD
  • More fps options in both 4K and Full HD video
  • Faster maximum shutter speed (1/32000 vs 1/4000)

Quality and sensor wise, not much has changed, although the Sony A6500 is expected to perform better at higher ISO speeds, thanks to a new front-end LSI (more and better performance in many areas of the camera). The biggest improvement is without a doubt the Image Stabilization system that’ll greatly help you in low light situations with any lens you use!

The improved buffer size is an excellent upgrade considering the 11fps makes the A6500 a great choice for action photography, as you’re now able to shoot up to 301 JPEGs compared to 44! Speaking about speed, the fastest shutter speed now sits at 1/32000, higher than most will ever go but good for bright scenes.

The Sony A6300 has a slightly longer battery life (+50) and is a little bit lighter, but that’s about it. Oh, and it’s also cheaper if you don’t need any of the new features. They both offer the same image quality and resolution, AF performance and burst shooting, so if you already own the A6300 I’d say wait with the upgrade.
