Best Memory Cards for Canon 7D Mark II

best-memory-cards-canon-7d-mark-ii

The Canon 7D Mark II is Canon’s most advanced APS-C camera, and is aimed at sports, wildlife and action photographers. With its 10fps burst mode, you need a fast memory card to quickly empty the buffer or you will constantly have to wait a bit before taking a new picture. Having a fast enough card is also important for smooth Full HD video recording.

Our favorite SD memory card is the SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB. It’s super fast (95MB/s) and affordable, plus SanDisk is the most reliable memory card company out there.

Our favorite CF memory card is the Lexar Professional 1066x 64GB, it’s also faster than the SD above by ~25MB/s with the 7D II.

We have looked at over 20 memory cards from different brands and selected 4 best for the price.

Best memory cards we recommend:

Best SD Memory Cards

Our top pick: The best choice is the SanDisk Extreme PRO 32GB (95MB/s). It’s cheap, super fast excellent for bursts, RAW shooting and videos. It’s UHS-I U3 so you can expect maximum performance with the 7D II, and it’s also perfect for many more advanced cameras as well.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

lexar-professional-64gb-2000x-usb3

Our top pick: Want the fastest there is? The Lexar Professional 2000X 64GB reads up to 300MB/s (USB 3.0) and is simply the best option if you transfer hundreds of images weekly. It will only be faster when transferring on the PC, whereas in the 7D II it will as fast as the card above (since the 7D II can’t go higher).

Lexar also includes a USB 3.0 reader in the kit, and there are 32GB and 128GB options available as well. It’s always better to buy a few cards instead of a big one so you minimize the risk of losing all shots together, so I’d recommend you to pick 32GB or 64GB (latter if you’re also into videos).

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

Best CF Memory Cards

lexar-professional-1066x-64gb

Our top pick: CF cards have around ~25MB/s faster writing speed on the 7D II (~100 vs 75). The Lexar Professional 1066x 64GB is is hands down the best memory card option, with ~100MB/s average writing speed, and a lower price than SanDisk’s card.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

sandisk-extreme-pro64gb

SanDisk’s Extreme Pro 1066x 64GB is more expensive and offers the same speed, but they’re mostly known for their cards being much more reliable in extreme temperatures and conditions than other brands. The card was tested at extreme cold and hot temperatures, and also features silicone coating for better shock and vibration protection.

You can buy it at Amazon or see more reviews here.

Stick to Lexar, SanDisk, Transcend and Sony cards and you’ll be fine.
