Canon Rebel T6s vs T5i – Comparison

canon-rebel-t6s-t5i

If the Canon Rebel T5i was a rather poor upgrade to the T4i, and didn’t offer any useful improvements, it’s a different story with the new Canon Rebel T6s. There are two new Rebels out though (T6i), and we chose to compare the T5i to the more expensive one to see if it’s worth the price increase.

Advantages of Canon Rebel T6s:

  • 6 more megapixels and a newer sensor results in more details, but unless you’ll crop or print large, you will rarely notice any difference in sharpness (it has more to do with skills and lenses)
  • 19 vs 9 AF points, and all of those are cross-type (more precise in difficult situations). We’ve been waiting on Canon for years to step up their AF game in the Rebel line, and they put the AF system of the 7D II in this little camera!
  • Top LCD screen is a wonderful thing to have, you’re able to check you settings quicker and spend more time taking shots than fiddling with the LCD screen
  • Built-in WiFi and NFC, like all other DSLRs today

You can get the Canon Rebel T6s + 18-135mm lens at Amazon for $1,199.00, while the body is available for $849. There’s also a cheaper version, the T6i, but it doesn’t come with the top LCD screen and lacks a couple of features as well, but offers the same sensor, AF system, burst mode and more (you can check the comparison here).
