Two New Canon Rebels, the T6i & T6s Announced

Canon announced two new Rebels, and this time they’re actually different compared to their predecessors. Just like the latest 5D line features two new models, the same thing happened to the Rebel line!

The Rebel T6i features a 24.2MP APS-C sensor, ISO sensitivity up to 25,600 and a 19-AF point system. Yes, not 9, but 19, and they’re all cross-type. It seems like Canon finally decided it’s time to give Nikon some more competition (the D5200, D5300 and D5500 all have 39 points).

It’s also smartphone/internet friendly, with built-in Wi-Fi and and NFC, so you can share shots with others almost instantly. There’s no Dual Pixel CMOS technology like in more expensive models (EOS 70D and 7D II), but you do get Hybrid CMOS AF III for quick and accurate tracking in live view and video.

It starts shipping in April 2015, but you can already pre-order it at Amazon here. Body only will be available for $749.00, +18-55m IS STM lens for $899.00

Same sensor, same AF system and almost everything else, but there are a few useful improvements that make the price increase reasonable. For starters, the body has a top LCD screen which makes shooting manually a walk in the park. It’s not difficult without it, but once you use a DSLR with a screen on top you don’t want to go back.

Then there’s the horizontal level for tripod photography, Servo AF in video/live view and more control when recording videos. Both cameras offer Full HD video at 30fps, and a burst mode of 5fps.

It also starts shipping in April 2015, and is available for pre-order at Amazon here.
