Advantages of the Canon EOS 7D Mark II:

  • 2 more megapixels, newer sensor
  • 2 stops higher maximum ISO speed, less noise/better quality
  • 65 vs 19AF points, all cross-type
  • 2fps faster in burst mode (also 4fps silent mode)
  • Slightly sharper LCD screen
  • Improved video functions, faster frame rates, better video options
  • CF and SDHC instead of 1 CF slot
  • USB 3.0 vs 2.0 for faster file transferring

Canon decided to go with an action paced camera again, hence why the 7D II doesn’t have a big bump in the megapixel department, but instead offers a much more sophisticated AF system. 65 cross-type points will allow you to lock onto pretty much everything that moves, and with 10fps chances of not getting a clear shot are much smaller than before.

Besides the expected video changes (a lot of us were hoping for more), dual memory card slot and general body upgrades, there’s not much left. Is it perhaps because the original 7D was such a good camera, or because there could be much more ot the new 7D II? Nonetheless, for $1,799.00 (body only) it seems like a solid upgrade.
