Top 5 Point and Shoot Cameras Under $150

A couple of years ago, you could hardly find a good point and shoot camera for under $150, but with all these new camera systems on the market, companies had to make certain sacrifices (price being number one). While the budget-camera list is mostly dominated by Canon, we also included two models from other popular brands.

Right after the price, the three most important things are obviously image quality, size and user friendliness. All 5 cameras below will give you a great deal for the money, and won’t make your life harder with buttons or settings you couldn’t understand.

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS

canon-sx-160is

Canon’s PowerShot series has been here for years, and is extremely popular among beginners and more serious photographers. The SX160 IS features a 16 megapixel sensor, a Digic 4 processor for fast performance and 720p video recording.

It uses a 16x zoom lens (equivalent to 28 – 448mm), meaning it will be just as good for everyday things, as it will be for animals and sports. Canon also included an Optical Stabilization system to get less blurred shots at night and a couple of Creative Filters to edit your photographs in the camera.

For more information and pricing, see the Canon SX160 IS at Amazon.

Canon PowerShot A2500

It doesn’t get smaller or lighter than the Canon A series! Just like the camera above, the PowerShot A2500 uses a 16MP 1/2.3″ CCD sensor and a Digic 4 processor. It offers 5x optical zoom, which is enough for those of you who just want a good cheap camera that can deliver good images in common situations.

Priced at only $80, it’s definitely a steal! Available in black, grey and red, this little fella also records 720p video at 25fps and offers a Help Mode in case you don’t understand certain settings.

You can get the Canon PowerShot A2500 for $80 at Amazon.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 130 IS

canon-powershot-elph-130is

The ELPH line sits slightly above the A line, but the price difference is very little. With Amazon’s great deals, the ELPH 130 IS will only cost you $98 (save over $50). Inside the camera you will find a 16 megapixel sensor (seems familiar) and a 28mm lens with 8x optical zoom (reach from 28mm to 224mm).

If you’ve read what the cameras above offer, then this is going to be boring; 720p video recording, Smart AUTO mode and a couple of pre-set modes to help you in different situations. However, it does come with built-in WiFi to easily share your images and ECO mode for less power consumption.

For only $20 more than the A2500, I recommend you to get the Canon ELPH 130 IS at Amazon.

Nikon CoolPix S6300

nikon-coolpix-s6300

It seems like 16MP is the sweet spot, because the Coolpix S6300 sports the same amount as all 3 Canon cameras. It comes with 10x optical zoom (25-250mm), Full HD video recording and built-in Image Stabilization (also known as VR at Nikon).

A pretty cool feature is also the Panorama mode, where the camera will stitch all the shots together into a 360º panoramic image. For some strange reason, the red version is quite cheaper than black/silver, but they’re all the same on the inside.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC WX80

We almost touched the $150 limit with the Sony WX80! If you decide to buy it from Amazon, you’ll also get a 16GB memory card, Sony’s black case, lens cleaning kit and a rechargeable battery. Who can say no to that?

It uses a 16.2MP sensor and Exmor R processor, Carl Zeiss lens with 8x optical zoom and records excellent Full HD (60i) videos. It’s small and light, has a bunch of options to help you at getting the best shot and costs $148, which is a great price for the kit you’re getting.
